Edson Potsch Magalhães formou-se Técnico Agrícola pela ESAV, em 1934, e, em 1938, concluiu o curso de Engenharia Agronômica, na mesma instituição. Ingressou na carreira docente em agosto de 1939, e nela permaneceu até deixar o cargo de reitor, após sua federalização, em 1971.
